Public Workforce Initiatives
A primary focus of the Workforce Development department is to ensure that the Greater Phoenix economy has a skilled labor pool to meet existing and future workforce needs. To this end, the department maintains active partnerships with the Phoenix Workforce Connection and Maricopa Workforce Connections one-stop career centers by coordinating college/skill center activities and providing representation on the Local Workforce Investment Boards. These boards plan and oversee the local workforce system including activities such as:
- Identifying providers of training services.
- Monitoring system performance against established performance measures.
- Negotiating local performance measures with the state board and the Governor.
- Helping develop the labor market information system.
If you are an individual exploring new career options or a business looking to hire or train employees, the Greater Phoenix one-stop career centers can help with services available to all residents including:
- Career Services - Advisement, resume preparation, job readiness workshops, financial aid, and unemployment insurance information.
- Business Services – Matching qualified workers with job postings, job fairs, tax credits, and customized employee training.
- Youth Services – Career counseling, work readiness, internships, mentorships, skills training.
- Veterans Services – Job placement, occupational skills training, tutoring, and supportive services for veteran families.
