The Glendale Community College Gauchos finished another stellar football season with their 12th Valley of the Sun bowl victory Saturday, Dec 4 defeating Central Lakes (Minn.) College-Brainerd 23-13.
GCC receiver Andrew Castaneda caught seven Kevin Yost passes for 142 yards and was named Glendale's Player of the Game. Completing 21 of 37 attempts for 268 yards and two touchdown passes, Yost connected with Castandea for a 34-yard score that threw GCC into the lead at 17-13, with 13:14 left. The two connected in the second quarter for the first score of the game and a 7-0 GCC lead with 13:48 left in the half. The touchdown came one play after Gaucho Hermene Flores recovered Nick Grewe's fumble at Minnesota's 38. Cinching GCC's win was kicker Jordan Sanchez's field goals from 24, 30 and 23 yards.
